Stroll through the medieval streets and cobbled lanes of Charmes-sur-Rhône, a picturesque village built on the rock overlooking the Rhône valley.
 

Explore Charmes-sur-Rhône, with its sun-drenched cobbled streets and shaded medieval ruins. From the feudal castle to the cobbled slopes, every alleyway reveals the village's charm, right up to the heights offering a sparkling panorama of the Rhône.
 

Description

  1. Start at Place de la Lorraine, where you will find an information panel about the Troubadour Trail. Read this before setting off on the themed trail.
  2. Turn right onto Rue du Péage, passing Charmes Village and the fountain. Continue straight ahead.
  3. Turn right onto Rue des Baillis, pass Place Pierre Bouchon and continue uphill to reach the medieval village of Charmes sur Rhône.
  4. Take Rue de la Calade for 50 metres. Take the stairs and the alleyway in the upper village. You will arrive at the Embroye Gate. Go under the Porte de l'Embroye gate, turn left onto the Porte Embroye alleyway and continue climbing up through the village.
  5. Turn left onto the Rue du Haut Clocher alleyway, climb the stairs again and continue following the signs for the orientation table. You will arrive at the old church - the medieval city.
  6. Go down the Toulaud road (D379) for about 100 metres and take the path on the left with the steps. At the end of the dirt track, you will arrive at the Laye cross; follow the low wall, turning left, and you will reach the orientation table.
  7. At the orientation table, there is a beautiful view of the Vercors, the village of Charmes and the Rhône. You can see the ruins of the feudal castle on your right. Retrace your steps and at the Laye cross, take the Laye path on the left which descends to the castle square.
  8. When you reach the main road, turn left. Ignore the steps on your right and take the steps on your left 50 metres further on. You will arrive at the Portal de l'Aubéran. Take the Rue de l'Aubéran.
  9. At the top of the lane, ignore the steps on your right and turn left. Take the steps to reach the tarmac road (D379).
  10. At the bottom of the steps, on the tarmac road, turn right and then take the first left. Go down the steps.
  11. At the bottom of the steps, turn left. 100 metres further on, turn right into the Trou du Loup, a dark, vaulted passageway.
  12. You will arrive at the square. Leave the square on your left and turn right onto Rue des Vingtins. Turn left onto Rue des Baillis and walk past Place Pierre Bouchon and turn left onto Rue du Péage. You will arrive at Place de la Lorraine and the town hall.
