From Neanderthal to the goddess Soïo

In front of the school, walk south up the street, then turn right onto Rue de la Tour.

1. Brégoule car park: Continue along Chemin de la Tour and after 200 metres, continue along the dirt track .
2. Chemin de la Tour: Continue westwards .
3. Chemin de Pierrette: Take the path on the left. On this section, pebbles bear witness to the passage of the Rhône river over a million years ago.
4. Serre d'Aurouze: The path becomes steeper before reaching the summit of the Serre. The north-western part of Aurouze contains an iron deposit that was mined by the Gauls and more recently in the first half of the 20th century.
5. Serre de Guercy: From here, there is a superb view of the Vercors, the Valençonnais and the Massif Central. Opposite, the oppidum of Malpas is dominated by its famous leaning tower, in which the beautiful Iseult du Béage was imprisoned. Descend 50 metres.
6. Col de Guercy: Cross a small clearing on the right and follow the marked trails to the caves. Be careful when you reach the eastern slope, as you will come out near the cliffs above the caves. Stay on the path.
7. Trou du renard: On the path to the caves, between the cedars, turn left. Carved into the Kimmeridgian clay limestone, these prehistoric caves, arranged in tiers, occupy the upper third of Guercy.
8. Chemin des grottes: Descend following the botanical trail.
9. Cave car park: Pass in front of an old quarry and follow the RD 86 to the church. Take Rue de l'Église. After the museum, continue to Place du Puits, then turn left onto Rue Pipet.
10. Soyons Centre: Go up Rue des Candilles towards the Brégoule car park.
